Health And Safety Protest Too Trivial For Media To Report

If there is one thing you can say about the UK's TV and newspaper media, it is that it never misses the opportunity to trivialise workplace health and safety; nor does it ever take the opportunity to cover a serious protest or news item with regard to this evil tory-led coalition government's attacks on the health, safety and welfare of the UK workforce.

Pressure groups and trades unions came together to protest against the Government's decision as previously reported by Unionsafety to revise, consolidate, or withdraw 15 Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPs) by the end of next year. The protest took place out side the DWPs offices in London on 3 July 2012.

Families Against Corporate Killers (FACK) and Union Safety Reps gathered outside the Dept of Work and Pensions offices in London to protest and highlight to the public; this appalling act of vandalism and destruction of health and safety culture on the UK.

Below is an 8 minute video record of the demonstration that was never reported by TV news media:

Following this demonstration a lobby of parliament took place in support of an Early Day Motion - EDM259 proposed by John McDonnell MP and signed by 21 MPs, on crane safety on construction sites. The EDM terms where:

'That this House recalls that after a series of serious accidents and fatalities caused by tower crane collapses a campaign was undertaken by the Battersea Crane Disaster Action Group comprising the relatives of the victims of the accidents, the Construction Safety Campaign and the health and safety campaign, Hazards, which led to new safety legislation related to crane operations being introduced in 2010; but expresses strong concern that recommendations contained in the Government's Lofstedt report is putting in jeopardy the safety regulations relating to tower cranes and working at height; and expresses its support for the protest and lobby of Parliament on 3 July calling on the Government to draw back from the implementation of these Lofstedt recommendations and the undermining of these safety regulations.'
